The Inevitable Question

Being an overthinker comes with own set of questions in addition from the ones those come from the external ones. So, being surrounded with tons of questions hasnโ€™t been a challenge to me, yet there are some questions that can threaten the very peace of the house. The inevitable ones.

There are many questions which I am learning to answer. Some are definitely the controversial ones but today letโ€™s talk about the one that hassles everyone. The answer to which is essential to the oneโ€™s very existence, the one bothers almost every independent adult, the one we didnโ€™t know we would spend the whole lifetime answering.

The question is –

โ€œAaj Khane me kya Banega?โ€ or โ€œWhatโ€™s for dinner/lunch?โ€

The question which I am still learning to answer.

Every morning when the cook comes in and asks, โ€˜aj kya banana hai didi?โ€™ Thereโ€™s a sigh that leaves my body before any answer leaves my mouth!

After a rough calculation, I discovered the fact that I have been answering this question for almost 6107 meals over six years of time. This of course, does not include the shared responsibility of decision making when I lived in shared accommodation before the marriage.

This seems to be one of the biggest responsibilities that comes on the shoulders of a new bride, what to feed myself and the fellow human for the rest of our lives?

Ah, what power we behold!

Is there a medal for completing 10000 planned meals, I wonder!

May be not, I havenโ€™t seen my mom wearing any!

Then I wonder, may itโ€™s only our over-aware generation who finds this task very tedious. However, the question still haunts almost every one equally.

After trying multiple combinations of protein, fibre, carbs and fat, an option might present itself. Then about few seconds later, there will be high possibility that it wouldnโ€™t suit the taste palette of at least one of the members of the house, irrespective of the count of people in the house. And there you go again, playing sudoku with the ingredients of the fridge to sit in a plate of balanced meal.

The weekly meal planning, as suggested by the dearest husband, did reduce the frequency of this question. However, it ended up in converting into a daunting weekly task from seemingly harmless everyday question. So, I chose to embrace the daily struggle of challenging my mind, the moment I wake up to the moment my help rings the doorbell demanding the answer to the most inevitable question.

Whatโ€™s your answer to this question? How do handle the monotony yet the importance of this question?

โ€œA Question I’m Still Learning to Answerโ€ was one of the prompts for Blogchatter Half Marathon.
