A Procrastinator’s Unfinished List

Some years ago, I learnt a new word watching a ted talk – Procrastination. I liked it, researched it and identified myself as a procrastinator thereafter. It was different from being lazy, which our parents called us when we didn’t complete a task on time. Oh, obviously it sounded better too!

There are three types of procrastinators usually talked about

  • Perfectionists (delay work thinking it will not meet their very own high standards)
  • Thrill-seekers (waiting until last minute to complete a task at the last minute)
  • Over-doers (taking on too much and then struggling to reach the finish line)

I’m easily the first one. As an aspiring perfectionist, I often prolong starting any work fearing failure or sub-standard completion. This leads to habit of listing down everything; chores, passion projects, artworks, places to explore and so on. So much so, that there comes a list of lists that is the master list!

Here’s a list of the things I say I’ll do tomorrow:

  1. Write. Like I have been procrastinating writing posts of this challenge, until the very last moment. Blaming it on lack of time sometimes, and sometimes on the muse.
  2. Start the Artwork. The canvas has been sitting in the corner since last few month awaiting for its tomorrow.
  3. Study. With AI changing the world each day, catching up on latest technology with human intelligence is just getting procrastinated every day.
  4. Exercise. Not self-motivated enough to put my body through rounds of hard work, this most postponed task on the daily list. Goes on to scroll and save 10 more reels showcasing home-workouts.
  5. Journaling. Mind is clouded with 30s reels but dumping it out on journal still doesn’t take precedence over doomscrolling.
  6. Drive. Having learnt the basics, this basic life-skill stays miles away from me.
  7. Learn a sport. Learning any active sport and adding mobility in my life has been on my list for last few years now, always getting less preference over other chores.
  8. Posting Travel reels. As hundreds of videos sit in my gallery longing of attention and effort to be turned into a reel, I take trip after trip only to capture more of them.
  9. Declutter. Turning my head around the room, I can count tons of things that need a thoughtful decluttering at the moment. Yet I choose to ignore them and continue to stare at my 6 inch screen.
  10. Calls. Guilty of not being able to call my friends as frequently as I wish to because the daily life sucks out all the strength by evening. Turning them a weekly call from once a month(s) would be such a desirable scenario.

Here was my honest confession as a procrastinator. Going through the above list, I ticked-off at least two of them today! Hurray!

What about you? Has life turned you also into a procrastinator or you are able to tick things of the list as soon as you make one?
