Breakfast Blues

“What should I cook for breakfast tomorrow??” Mom shooted her inevitable question in the air and we knew there was no escape.
Ten minutes later and still she hadn’t got any response. Dad was busy in his work or seemed so, I was busy reading the book I had to review this week and little sister pretended not having heard the question in the first place.
“Tell me or I will give you bread and butter only”, she asked again. She knew anything was preferable over this option. So she succeeded in gaining attention atleast, if not the answers.
“Anything you wish dear”, said dad, not raising head from his work.
“Usual answer. From past three days I am cooking according to my wish only. I am short of ideas. Yours might save the situation”, she pleaded.
“Mom, ask her. Her Board Exams just got over. Pamper her with her favourite dishes”, I said as I tried to escape the question and conveniently dodged it towards my not-so-innocent sister.
Thirty minutes into the discussion, but my mom still hadn’t got what she wanted.
“I’m thinking to ask Mr. Gupta, our neighbor to invite us for the breakfast”, my Dad offered her valuable opinion.
My mom looked at him in pure disbelief.
He knew an explanation was needed. “The other day when we left for an office trip early in the morning, his wife has packed him some awesome Cornflake Coconut Ladoos. They were light and healthy too. I simply loved them.”
“Oh really?” Mom asked.
“Yes, you should get that recipe from Mrs. Gupta”, he teased her further, but she knew Dad only praised those things that he really liked.
But before Mom could react, my darling sibling finally came to room to announce, “Mom! Ruhi, Gupta Uncle’s daughter brings Chapatti Cornflakes Chivda for lunch. It’s perfect mix of salty and spicy flavour. It’s so yummy. She hardly gets a spoon of it for herself. We all devour it before she would stay stop!” She giggled as she remembered the previous incident of tiffin snatching. I smiled as the memories of school lunch time came rushing to my mind. Nostalgic.
“And Mom, the other day when I went to Gupta Uncle’s house to get the documents Dad wanted, he made me taste those Walnut Cornflakes Chocó balls. Cornflakes, Chocolate and walnut. It was a piece of heaven! Indeed a perfect blend of health and taste.”
“Anything related to chocolate is bound to be your favourite instantly, isn’t it N?” chided Mom.
I smiled and nodded meekly.
“Well, Mrs. Gupta do have recipes of delicious dishes. Last week in our club party, she was discussing her latest recipe of Cabbage Corn Salad in Basil Curd Dressing. It was a new spin on salads with a power packed cornflake crunch. It was mouth-watering”, Mom added her views on the discussion of culinary skills of Gutpa family. But she clearly hadn’t forgotten her initial question as she again threw at us the most dodged question.
“So, what’s decided for breakfast tomorrow??”
