The Words Of Silence #BarAThon

Read Here:  Part one  | two | three

A strange silence followed for the next few minutes. She wanted to say something but couldn’t find the words to suit the situation. The silence was comforting and intriguing at the same time. It was as if their hearts wanted to talk, to pour out their troubles, yet they understood each other in silence. She could guess what he was going through, even though she knew nothing about him. Something told her that he needed a listener for his silence. She had been there too. She knew how it felt to not be able to see any light at the end of the tunnel. She knew how terrible it was when there were people around you and all you can feel is loneliness. When the Sun shone brightly but all you can see is darkness. She shrugged away those thoughts. She had come out of them on her own back then, with no one to help. It was then she knew she would not let anyone slip away even though the person was a stranger just like the one sitting beside her at the moment.

After another few minutes, she spoke gently while getting up, “I think I should leave now. It’s quite late for me.”
Her words broke his reverie. “Oh no! The party has just begun, stay!” He didn’t know why he said that because all he wanted was to escape this place too.
“No, I’ll get going. Enjoy your solitude, but beware it becomes an addiction! Been there, done that” she chuckled. There was something about her laugh that made him smile.
His smile encouraged her to say more. “I don’t know what you are going through but trust me let it be. Just embrace everything that comes your way. Acceptance, it helps. Life isn’t fair, you know, to anybody, but just hold on… you are almost there… and remember, Life isn’t that bad! It’s pretty much good. Cheers!”, she raised her glass of drink and gulped the last sip before turning to walk away.
“Cheers! And thanks!”, the words left him before he could know why and she smiled.
She walked towards the dance floor to let Dipshita know that she was leaving.
“Hey, I’ll be leaving another five minutes”, Ruchi told Dipshita who lost in her dance moves, grooving to the latest music.
“Okay, but wait how will you go? It already past midnight”, asked Dipshita concerned.
“I’ll drop you”, said Avinash, startling everyone who heard him. Avinash booked the cab and they left in the next five minutes.

She had just stepped in when the message from Dipshita arrived asking her if she had reached home.
Yup.
She typed back and went to freshen up before hitting the bed. When she came back to check her phone another text from her best friend was awaiting her attention.
You were smiling today. Like smiling smiling. 😉
Ruchi took no time to understand what she had just read and unknowingly she had smiled some more.
I have a smiling face Dip.
She replied back.
You know what I mean! And I know you are smiling now also.
Came the swift reply. She blushed as if she was caught red-handed. She glanced around to see if Dipshita was around somewhere keeping an eye on her. But no, it was just that her best friend knew her too well. But she had no idea why was that, rather what was that.

  2. Best friends and their internal thermometers!
Loved the way the prompt got incorporated into the story. As I started reading the post, I almost forgot that this was a post for #BarAThon! Beautifully done 🙂
